According to a recent report from Statistics Canada there are nearly 6 unemployed people in Canada for every job vacancy. Nation wide there are more than 1.2 million people out of work yet there were 221,000 job opening at the end of 2012. To add to these mind numbing statistics, to no ones’ great surprise, the situation in Ontario is worse than the Canadian average. [Read more...]

No NHL but still a Power Play in Ontario
There may not be any NHL action in Ontario but there still is a power play of NHL proportions. This power play is between the teachers’ unions and the provincial government and it is just that, a battle for power. The battle is to determine who is really in charge of Ontario’s education system. [Read more...]
PC’s war on the LCBO, the “Old School” approach.
Mr. Hudak stated this week that his Progressive Conservatives would privatize the LCBO if elected. It seems that every time this man gains in popularity, usually because of some bone-headed move his opposition makes, he says something completely idiotic like this. Either this man is completely out of touch with reality or he thinks us voters are a bunch of idiots. [Read more...]
Dalton is gone – Let’s fix this mess! Part 2
OK, the mess is there so where do we start? We at The Parkdale Party would start where we would get the biggest and quickest bang for the buck, management. Those who see first hand how services such as Health Care, Energy, and Education are delivered know that these are incredibly poorly run organizations. Examples are plentiful, huge, and obvious so there is no point in reviewing them again. So, how do we start? Step 1: [Read more...]
McGuinty’s Freeze Sends a Chill
The Liberals’ approach to cost control is to impose a wage freeze (kind of, sort of) on public sector managers. The ceiling for salaries is frozen at $418,000.00, or twice the Premier’s salary, but there are a few ways around this cap which is riddled with exemptions. What else can we expect from our leader than to blind us with his constant smoke screens. Whenever something positive comes out of our government you have to ask yourself about the catch, because we all know there is one. [Read more...]
A Showdown at the Automotive Corral: Part 2
With tentative agreements between the CAW, Ford, and GM in place we give credit where credit is due. Congratulations to the CAW for bending but not braking and, certainly at this point in time, not shooting themselves in the foot. Of course the devil is in the details but it certainly appears that the companies can live with the agreements without the demands they originally placed to have the Canadian operations at cost par with those in the U.S. But, there are always the conspiracy theorists as to what is the real motive and objective behind these agreements. The Showdown at the Automotive Corral.
It appears that the CAW is going to show North America’s Big 3 auto makers who’s the boss in this (automobile manufacturing) town. There is a showdown looming between the CAW and Chrysler Canada and both sides have taken their first shots. CAW president Ken Lewenza has taken his shot by putting his members on strike notice. Nice shot Ken, you’ve got them shaking in their boots. In return Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne fired back that Chrysler “has options” regarding where they can manufacture the cars currently made in Canadian facilities. Ouch! That’s a shot below the belt that will certainly take some of the wind out of the CAW. So, who has the stronger hand to play some “Canadian Holdem”? [Read more...]
