So, Premier McGuinty has promised 50,000 Green Jobs for Ontario. Fantastic! Excellent! Where do I get one? And, what is Green Job anyway?
The Liberal government hasn’t really defined what a Green Job is but it sure sounds great.
What also isn’t defined is how many existing jobs will be sacrificed. Making steel is a dirty process but steel is used to make wind turbine towers so is steel production now a Green Job or should we shut down all steel plants? Trucking is dirty but trucks carry all parts and equipment to solar and wind plants so is trucking now a Green Job or do we eliminate all trucks? Does it even make sense to use dirty steel and dirty trucking to create Green Energy? For Ontario a Green Job is an oximoron. Nothing more than smoke (dirty) and mirrors.
What will certainly be green is our collective faces when we come to realize that each of these Green Jobs will require a subsidy of somewhere in the order of $200,000.00 per year. This number comes out of a study of the Liberal Green Energy plan by U of Guelph professor Glenn Fox and co-author ex-banker Parker Gallant.
Green Job? More like a Green Snow Job!
